Aunt Jemima’s New Logo & Trademark: “Pearl Milling Company”

PepsiCo has officially rebranded their maple syrup & pancake mix. If you weren’t aware, one of the most popular brands amongst breakfast related products “Aunt Jemima” maple syrup & pancake mix are now known as “Pearl Milling Company.” Which in the 19th century was the original corporation created for the pancake mix.

PepsiCo & a number of other brands rebranded themselves in order to accommodate the black & brown community. During last summer’s Black Lives Matter movement.

Some public figures/celebrities felt as though the black & brown communities needed more than just a simple “name change.” Some brands were historically known solely for their racially triggering logos, messages, etc. Netflix also rid any show that offended the black & brown community as well. Netflix also honored Dave Chappelle’s request to rid his most profitable work, which was “The Chappelle Show” due to his circumstance  that still stands today.

It’s a well-known narrative that some of the most expensive, popular, & quality brands/corporations have racist/prejudice products, trademarks, or logos. The negative stereotypes on the black & brown community have always been accepted, tolerated, & profitable. However, companies are now taking a stand to change that by no longer carrying that name, trademark/logo.

PepsiCo statement:

“While the Aunt Jemima brand was updated over the years in a manner intended to remove racial stereotypes, it has not progressed enough to appropriately reflect the dignity, respect, and warmth that we stand for today.”

Tik Tok Inks New Deal With Universal Music Group.

Universal Music Group & Tik Tok have partnered together, because of the app’s popular influence on the masses. The artists/musicians songs are promoted, streamed, etc. through popular trends/challenges, so it’s only right for UMG & Tik Tok to partner.

Tik Tok also makes it much easier for artists/musicians to be compensated for their song being used, quite frankly. Also, being that Triller is a well-known competitor of Tik Tok, UMG pulled their music catalog from the app.

Universal Music Group’s statement on their decision behind the partnership:

“Tik Tok has revolutionized how fans are connecting with our artists on their platform and in the social space, and we think that we have the potential to collaborate really deeply with them to develop the kinds of tools that are going to really move the needle  for our artists and for the industry.”

Jaden Smith, Co – Founder of “Just Water” Product Is Now Available At Fresh Market In Macon, Ga!

At the age of 12 Jaden Smith, launched his first company being that he was concerned about how plastic water bottles littered the oceans & planet.

He aimed to shift this issue after becoming aware of plastic water bottles littering the ocean &  planet. Jaden then created a company that would replace the single-use plastic bottles with a more sustainable alternative.

Jaden Smith stated:

 “I knew that it was going to be really hard to create, like, a new soda. And I knew that the recipe for water all over the world is pretty much the same and it was going to be a lot easier to create a new water bottle company than a soda company. And that’s what I wanted to do, and I was like, 12 years old.”

Jaden had help from his parents, Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith, in 2015, with company “JUST Water,” they sold it in upstate New York. The water is also packaged in a bottle made of 82% renewable resources. JUST water doesn’t pump water & go. The company only uses 100% spring water. The excess water from their community that isn’t needed is what JUST water uses. The company also fairly pays for the water they use.

Statement from JUST water website:

“JUST is not purified tap water—an inefficient process that actually wastes water and energy. JUST is flavorful spring water with naturally occurring mineral and PH content. It is pumped from a reliably plentiful source in the United States. Three- billion-gallons-a-year plentiful.”

Also, a statement from JUST water website:

“82% of every JUST Water carton is plant derived. The result: a 74% reduction in carbon emissions compared to a standard plastic water bottle.”

The company pays 6x the water rate , their source is Glens Falls. A deal was negotiated & JUST water did not have a narrow-eyed intent on their vision. They could’ve easily paid a lot less for the excess water that their using, but JUST apparently doesn’t work like that.

JUST water placed a greater value on an abundant natural resource, which has been historically undervalued, they’ve provided a new income source for their city. It is expected to reach $1 million over the next 3 – 5 years. This income will help maintain the infrastructure & funds repairs to the aging water pipes for everybody. Since JUST water was created the company has kept nearly 4.4 million lbs. of carbon from being released into the environment.

Jaden Smith statement:

“I saw what happens when plastic goes to waste in our environment and how it affects us… I needed to do something and make a difference. So, we’re trying to eliminate as much plastic as possible. I want to make it easier [for people] to be part of the solution.”

Fast forward to NOW JUST has 1-3 bottling facilities in the U.K., Australia , & the U.S. The distinctively mostly-paper water bottles are currently sold in 10 different countries, their also sold in over 15,000 retail locations in North America. The company has expanded to the United Arab Emirates, & they’ll be launching in over 20,000 stores in Japan. JUST will also be shelved at Publix, CVS, & Target.  

JUST sent a water filtration system to Flint, Michigan, it can clean up to 10 gallons of water at once. Jaden also has a free vegan food truck for the homeless as another way to give back.

-Some day, JUST and its carbon footprint could become too big to stay true to its environmental roots. 

Jaden Smith’s response:

“It can get to that point where it says, you know, ‘Hey, this isn’t a part of our original mission anymore.’ And, yes, I do believe that we could get there. But right now, we are growing in a really cool, in a really hip way in the world. But our competitors are, like so much bigger than us. It’s crazy, I do feel like if we did get to a point where we were like much bigger than our competitors, it would be an environmental issue. But that’s a long way off.”
